Baku Calls Iranian Military Official’s Claim Slanderous and Ridiculous

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan has described the recent claim by the commander of Iran’s Army Ground Forces regarding the presence of Israel and ISIS forces on Azerbaijani soil as slanderous and ridiculous.

In a statement published on Thursday, March 30, on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, it adds that it is laughable for a senior military official of a country that supports terrorism and whose name is linked with terror in various countries to make such accusations against the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Kiomars Heydari, the commander of the Army Ground Forces, recently claimed that there are several very sensitive issues in the Caucasus, including the presence of elements of the Zionist regime within the borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

He added that another issue is the presence of Syrian terrorists who were invited to the region during the Baku-Armenia conflict. Iran has no credible evidence of these elements leaving the region, and another issue is the change in geopolitical borders.

Iran had raised this claim at the start of the Karabakh war in the fall of 2020, a topic that the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly rejected and demanded evidence from Iran.
