Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated that in the correspondence between Iran and the United States, there was nothing other than the nuclear issue.
Ismail Baghaei, in an interview with IRIB, discussed the latest details and developments related to the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in Oman.
In response to the question that some informed sources have stated that in the draft by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special representative for Middle East affairs, which has been placed on the desk of our Foreign Minister, issues such as Iran’s regional presence, missile capabilities, and security have not been addressed, and it has merely asked Iran to guarantee its nuclear program is non-military, he said, if we consider the correspondence that took place and the start of the process that led to the indirect talks in Muscat as the basis of work, we did not have anything other than the nuclear issue in that correspondence.
He continued, therefore, I think it is clear that the American side has entered this interaction based on the same instructions they had.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that what has been our basis, and according to the instructions received from the system’s authorities and also based on the belief of the diplomatic apparatus, we were committed to only discuss the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions with the American side.
In this sense, the very fact that we agreed to indirect talks with the United States is a departure from those claims that were made regarding regional issues, missiles, and others.
