BBC to Lay Off 500 Employees in the Next Two Years

The BBC will lay off 500 employees in the next two years.

According to published reports, the BBC in the United Kingdom, after a 10% reduction in its workforce over the past five years, plans to lay off or reduce its workforce by 500 more employees within the next 20 months.

In addition to the annual savings plan of £500 million, equivalent to €594 million, announced two years ago, the BBC is implementing an additional plan to cut costs by £200 million, equivalent to €237 million, which was announced last March.

The BBC is one of the major media outlets in the United Kingdom, and its funding is mainly through public broadcasting fees that every household is required to pay.

In 2023, this media outlet received £36 billion, equivalent to €43 billion, in financial contributions.
