The CEO of Behesht Zahra Organization announced that Tehran needs 6.7 million new graves in the next fifty years, stating that if a new cemetery is not built, 40 corpses will remain unburied every day.
Mohammad Javad Tajik, on Tuesday, July 24th, during the review of the urgency of the proposal for constructing new cemeteries in the Tehran City Council, said that the establishment of this matter had been under review in the council for months. We are 20 years behind on the issue of cemeteries, and we have the opportunity and capacity until the end of this year.
He also mentioned that four locations in the city have been selected for potential cemeteries, aiming for distribution across the city to make the construction of the cemetery justifiable. Our request was to expedite this action; we need 6.7 million graves for the next 50 years.
According to IRNA, ultimately, the urgency of the proposal for constructing new cemeteries in Tehran was not approved, with 10 votes against.
