Benjamin Briere, a French citizen, went on a hunger strike in Iran

Benjamin Briere, a French citizen in Iran, has gone on a hunger strike.

He has been sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of espionage and has been incarcerated in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for approximately 9 months.

His sister told a French news agency that the hunger strike is his only weapon.

Philippe Valan, his lawyer, described his espionage charges as a fictional story and his trial as a ridiculous theatrical performance directed by the Revolutionary Guards.

Benjamin Briere is one of seven French citizens imprisoned in Iran.

Mr. Valan stated that the conditions for his client in the overcrowded prison, notorious for extrajudicial executions, are extremely harsh, and he is physically and mentally exhausted.
