Benjamin Brière, a French Citizen, Went on Hunger Strike in Iran

Benjamin Brière, a French citizen, went on a hunger strike in Iran.

He has been sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of espionage and has been held in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad for about 9 months.

His sister told the French news agency that a hunger strike is her brother’s only weapon.

Philippe Valent, the lawyer for this prisoner, described his espionage charge as a fictional story and his trial as a ridiculous show directed by the Revolutionary Guards.

Benjamin Brière is one of seven French citizens imprisoned in Iran.

Mr. Valent said that in the cramped and dark prison known for extrajudicial executions, his client’s conditions are extremely harsh and he has no physical or mental strength left.
