Biden and the Swan Song in Chicago

Until a month ago, the U.S. President was set to deliver the closing speech at the Democratic Convention in Chicago and officially be the party’s candidate to battle Trump in the election.

Everything changed, and he became the keynote speaker on the opening night of his party’s convention.

For this bittersweet speech, and in a situation where he was encouraged by his success in solidifying Kamala Harris’s position as his party’s candidate, he spent a few days consulting with his advisors to prepare a distinguished text, and indeed, he delivered a dignified and strong speech.

His main advisor over the years has been Jon Meacham, a renowned historian and thinker who holds significant credibility in academic, political, and media circles.

“The Soul of America” is a slogan Meacham added to Biden and his thought process, and in fact, it was Meacham who, with a major meeting in 2019, brought Biden into the U.S. election process. In his speech, Biden highlighted his important achievements during his presidency and repeatedly emphasized his support for Harris.

It was natural that his heavy attacks and criticisms of Trump would also be repeated in this speech, and this time he set aside all considerations in this regard and warned more explicitly than before about the danger of re-electing Trump. The U.S. President, emphasizing that in the remaining months of his presidency, he would have important ideas and plans in execution, addressed the Gaza crisis directly, called for a ceasefire, and, in solidarity with the countless protesters supporting the Palestinian people around the event venue, stirred the crowd.

He ended his speech by pounding his hand on the podium, and everything was over.

The welcome by Harris and her husband to the Biden family on stage and Biden’s uncontrollable emotions narrated the passing of the leadership flag of the Democratic Party.

Biden has promised to be the most enthusiastic volunteer in Harris’s campaign. A historic era is coming to an end. With fifty-two years of elected political office in America, Biden will leave American politics in a few months.
