Biden Makes Granting Asylum in the US More Difficult

Biden Makes U.S. Asylum Harder

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has proposed a plan that will make asylum applications for migrants more difficult starting from May this year, following the lifting of COVID border controls.

According to this plan, adult asylum seekers must use an app to schedule an appointment with U.S. officials or apply for asylum in another country before reaching the United States.

Failure to comply with these conditions will disqualify migrants and asylum seekers from being eligible for asylum.

Migrant advocacy groups have compared this plan to the policies of Donald Trump’s era.

The proposed plan is the toughest action to restrict migration by Democrat Joe Biden, who came to power promising a more humane approach to the border crisis compared to his predecessor. The proposed law applies only to adults and families and does not include unaccompanied children.
