Birth of the First Iranian Fallow Deer in Lorestan
After years of being away from its natural habitat and origin, the first Iranian fallow deer calf was born on the slopes of the Yafteh Mountain in Khorramabad, Iran.
In the year 2022, a total of 10 Iranian fallow deer were transferred from two breeding and rearing sites in Dasht-e Naz, Sari, and the Eisar Center in Karaj to Lorestan province and the slopes of the Zagros Mountains, which were the original habitat and origin of this species in the past. Now, during the breeding season on May 13, 2023, the first Iranian fallow deer was born in Lorestan, Iran.
Ali Salarvand, the Director General of Environmental Protection of Lorestan Province, confirmed this news and stated that the newly born calf is in a suitable and stable condition and is under the care of site officials and the relevant veterinarian along with its mother.
However, the birth of this Iranian fallow deer has been accompanied by concerns and questions related to the story of the death of an Iranian cheetah cub due to negligence. Previously, Pirooz, the Iranian cheetah cub, died at eight months old due to kidney problems and the prescription of inappropriate antibiotics at birth.
