Blinken: Agreement Between Armenia and Azerbaijan is Within Reach
The U.S. Secretary of State said on Thursday, referring to the talks between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, mediated by Washington, that the two sides have discussed very challenging issues over the past few days and have made tangible progress towards reaching a sustainable peace agreement.
He added that both parties have shown their sincere commitment to normalizing relations and ending this long-standing conflict, and that both Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on principles and now have a better understanding of each other’s positions on the remaining issues.
Representatives of the two countries also released identical statements after these four-day talks, announcing within that framework that their teams have reached a mutual understanding on some provisions of a draft bilateral agreement for peace and establishing intergovernmental relations.
Nevertheless, both sides simultaneously emphasized that their views on some key issues still differ.
