Blinken: Ukraine should decide on its borders itself

The U.S. Secretary of State said on Thursday, March 23rd, that there are areas in Ukraine that the country is determined to fight for, and there might be areas that Kyiv may decide to regain by other means.

Speaking in the U.S. House of Representatives, Antony Blinken emphasized the necessity of maintaining Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity, but added that regarding how exactly Ukraine’s territorial integrity is defined, we are waiting for the Ukrainians to tell us.

The U.S. Secretary of State also stated that any peace agreement must be just and sustainable.

He did not rule out long-term negotiations about Ukraine’s future borders and added that the decision regarding the borders and territory of this country is up to the Ukrainians.

Blinken also added that his country does not believe Kyiv wants to reclaim all the territories occupied by Russia, especially Crimea.
