Boeing is dismissing its CEO amid a widespread scandal related to airplane safety.
Following a major safety crisis that was intensified by the detachment of a part of the Boeing 737 Max’s body last December, David Calhoun, the CEO of Boeing, will step down by the end of this year. This resignation is part of a major overhaul in the management of this aircraft manufacturing company.
Boeing announced that Stan Deal, the President and CEO of Boeing’s commercial airplanes division, will retire and Stephanie Pope will replace him. Additionally, Steve Mollenkopf, the former CEO of the technology company Qualcomm, has been appointed as the new Chairman and will lead the process of selecting the next CEO.
These leadership changes at Boeing come after weeks of turmoil following an incident involving an Alaska Airlines 737 Max with 171 passengers. This incident has turned into a full-blown safety and credibility crisis for this renowned airplane manufacturer.
