Borrell Expresses Concern in Talks with Amir-Abdollahian Over Possible Transfer of Iranian Missiles to Russia

Borrell expressed concern in a conversation with Amirabdollahian about the potential transfer of Iranian missiles to Russia.

Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, reported a conversation with Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, and reiterated the European Council’s concerns about the potential transfer of Iranian missiles to Russia.

These remarks come as Iran’s Foreign Ministry, quoting Amirabdollahian prior to Borrell’s account, stated that the Iranian Foreign Minister described the repeated claims about the transfer of Iranian weapons for use against Ukraine as storytelling and a baseless and tedious allegation.

On February 21, Reuters, citing six sources, reported that Iran had sent about 400 ballistic missiles to Russia. According to this report, these shipments began in January 2024 following negotiations between Tehran and Moscow. However, John Kirby, the White House National Security Council spokesperson, said a day after this report that they did not yet have information about the transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia but could not definitively rule out potential future deliveries.
