Sanctioning of 135 Russian oil tankers by the UK
On Monday, July 30, the UK sanctioned 135 oil tankers belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet.
This action was taken to disrupt the revenue stream that helps finance Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
In a statement, the UK Foreign Office announced that alongside these tankers, two entities active in the shipping sector were also targeted under these sanctions.
Since the beginning of 2024, this fleet has illegally transported more than 24 billion dollars worth of oil cargo.
Security experts say Russia has secretly deployed hundreds of ships to evade Western sanctions on its oil exports following the Ukraine war.
