Canada sanctioned seven judges of the Iranian judiciary
On Monday, June 19, Canada’s Foreign Minister announced that the country is imposing further sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, sanctioning seven judges of the Islamic Revolutionary Courts for systematic human rights violations.
Melanie Joly added that these sanctions are imposed under the Special Economic Measures Regulations related to Iran and are aligned with the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.
The seven sanctioned judges are Morteza Barati, judge of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court; Hadi Mansouri, judge of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court; Mousa Asef al-Hosseini, judge of the Karaj Revolutionary Court; Seyed Mahmoud Sadati, judge of the Shiraz Revolutionary Court; Mehrdad Tahamtan, advisor judge of the Shiraz Criminal Court; Mohammad Moghiseh, judge of the Supreme Court and Tehran Revolutionary Court; and Heydar Asiyayi, judge of the Gorgan Revolutionary Court.
In a statement, Canada’s Foreign Minister said that these judicial figures of the Islamic Republic are responsible for gross and systematic violations of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Iranian people.
