Canadian MP takes on political sponsorship of Mojtaba Korkori

Anita Vandenbeld, a Canadian MP, announced that she has taken on the political sponsorship of Mojtaba Korkori and called for a halt to his execution order.

Ms. Vandenbeld wrote on her Twitter that today she joins many other human rights defenders and Iranian activists in asking Iran to stop the imminent execution of Mojtaba Korkori on baseless charges. I am the political sponsor of Mojtaba Korkori.

A few days ago, the Revolutionary Court in Izeh County, Khuzestan Province, Iran, sentenced Abbas Mojtaba Korkori to death for the alleged murder of Kian Pirfalak, a child who was shot during the November 25 protests last year.

The Mizan News Agency reported this news, stating that the sentence is not final and can be appealed in the Supreme Court.

Abbas Mojtaba Korkori is one of the individuals who was arrested in early January in a village in Izeh County. Mojtaba Korkori’s family and his mother reported that he was under pressure and torture to extract a confession.
