In a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Center for Human Rights Defenders, referencing the killing of Mahsa Amini by the morality police and the public protests, stated that no effective action has yet been taken to uncover and determine the cause of such a crime. This is while most parts of the cities are equipped with cameras, and participants in street protests and gatherings are easily identified and arrested.
They wrote that the Iranian people, recalling similar behavior in Afghanistan by the Taliban and the dissatisfaction of the leaders of the Islamic Republic with the protests of young girls against compulsory hijab, believe that the repetition of such incidents is ultimately aimed at confining women and girls to their homes.
