CENTCOM denies Iran’s claim of firing at American destroyers
The United States Central Command, CENTCOM, has denied the claims made by the Islamic Republic’s army about firing missiles and drones towards American destroyers in the Sea of Oman.
Earlier, Iranian media had reported, citing the army, that the country’s navy fired Qadir missiles and assault drones as a warning to two American destroyers, which then left the Sea of Oman.
CENTCOM announced on the X network an hour later that Iranian forces did not attack or open fire on U.S. Navy warships.
The American military body added that such an action, if it had occurred, would have been considered a clear violation of the ceasefire.
CENTCOM also emphasized the continuation of the naval blockade on Iran, which began in late April.
These exchanges of claims are occurring while indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, mediated by regional countries, are ongoing, but tensions and sporadic clashes in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz continue.
