Chain stores will no longer provide free plastic bags

The Iranian Environmental Organization has stated that chain stores should no longer distribute free plastic bags. Mehdi Khadem Thamni, the Director General of the Waste Management Office of the Environmental Protection Organization, has said that in honor of Earth Week and starting in about a week, stores will not offer free plastic bags to customers. According to him, annually, 21 tons of plastic bags are used just in the fruit and vegetable markets of Tehran, which is a very high number.
