China announces meeting of Fatah and Hamas representatives in Beijing

Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on Tuesday, April 30th (11th of Ordibehesht), referring to the official names of the Palestinian groups, that representatives of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement and the Islamic Resistance Movement recently came to Beijing and negotiated about reconciliation among themselves.

The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, without mentioning the timing of the Palestinian groups’ meeting, added that both parties fully expressed their political will to achieve reconciliation through dialogue and consultation, discussed many specific issues, and positive progress has been made.

In 2007, Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip after a fierce battle with Fatah forces.

The Palestinian National Liberation Movement, Fatah, administratively controls the West Bank area occupied by Israel through the Palestinian Authority.
