The Chinese government is moving away from its COVID policies
While Chinese security officials and police are gradually shutting down public protests in the country and we must wait for the outcome of their efforts, the first signs of the Communist Party officials’ relative concession to public dissatisfaction with Xi Jinping’s COVID policies and his administration’s structure have emerged.
In various parts of China, the harsh quarantine laws and mandatory repeated COVID testing have been relaxed. Complete lockdowns and restrictions on leaving homes are somewhat decreasing, though this is limited to certain areas. The requirement for testing and presenting a negative COVID test to enter hospitals for treatment of other illnesses has also been temporarily lifted in Beijing.
