The Chinese government is distancing itself from its COVID-19 policies
While Chinese security officials and police are gradually extinguishing public protests in the country, and we must wait for the results of their efforts, the first signs of relative submission by Communist Party officials to public dissatisfaction with Xi Jinping’s COVID-19 policies and his administration’s structure have become apparent.
In various regions of China, the stringent quarantine rules and mandatory repeated COVID-19 testing have been eased. Complete lockdowns and restrictions on leaving homes are being reduced to some extent, although this is limited to certain areas. The requirement for testing and presenting a negative COVID-19 test to enter hospitals for treatment of other illnesses has also been temporarily lifted in Beijing.
