China’s probe launch towards the dark side of the moon for sampling

China’s unmanned spacecraft was launched into space on Friday, May 4th, to collect samples of rocks and soil from the moon’s dark side.

This two-month mission is China’s first ambitious attempt to send a probe to the moon’s dark side.

The Long March 5 rocket, China’s most powerful rocket, carrying the Chang’e 6 probe, was launched into space around 5:30 PM on Friday from the Wenchang Space Center on Hainan Island in southern China.

This probe is set to land at the moon’s south pole on the dark side of this celestial body, which is not visible from Earth, and after a two-month mission, it will return the collected soil and rock samples to Earth.

The dispatch of this exploratory spacecraft is another significant advancement in China’s space programs aimed at exploring the moon.
