Chinese police suppress protesters with advanced technologies
China’s security forces use the most advanced technologies to identify and arrest protesters against COVID restrictions and political oppression in the country.
According to human rights activists, following the start of protests in various Chinese cities after last week’s deadly Urumqi fire, the police are using facial recognition cameras and satellite trackers to identify the identity and residence of protesters, arresting them after the slightest presence in gatherings or protests.
The People’s Republic of China has been focusing on the development of surveillance technologies on its citizens, particularly facial recognition cameras, for years.
This program is usually justified under the pretext of protecting citizens and combating organized crime; however, human rights organizations have consistently condemned this approach by Beijing, describing its aim as suppressing even the smallest dissenting voices in the country.
