Pressure from Democratic senators on the government has increased
Chuck Schumer, the Democratic minority leader in the U.S. Senate, wrote in a message on the social network X that even some Republican senators openly admit they have no idea what the government is pursuing in the Middle East.
Emphasizing the need to end the conflicts, he added, ‘Enough is enough, end this war.’
In recent days, a number of Democratic senators have also taken similar positions regarding the continuation of the war. Bernie Sanders, a senator from Vermont, has warned that escalating conflict in the Middle East could draw the U.S. into a costly and prolonged war and has called for a focus on diplomatic solutions.
Additionally, Chris Murphy, a senator from Connecticut, and Elizabeth Warren, a senator from Massachusetts, have asked the government to clearly explain its goals and strategy regarding the war with Iran to Congress and the public.
Some of these senators have also emphasized that any expansion of military operations should be conducted with congressional oversight and authorization.
