CIVICUS Annual Report: The Islamic Republic Among the Most Repressive Governments for Civil Society

The annual report by Civicus ranks the Islamic Republic as one of the most repressive governments in terms of civil society.

Civicus, a non-governmental organization based in South Africa that works on civil rights and strengthening civil society globally, has categorized the Islamic Republic as one of the most repressive governments in terms of civil society and freedom of assembly.

According to the latest report by this non-governmental organization, 27 countries or regions in the world have a closed space for civil society, and Iran is one of these countries.

In its report released in mid-April, Civicus pointed to the severe repression and killing of protesters during the Woman, Life, Freedom protests.

During the Woman, Life, Freedom protests, according to international human rights organizations, more than five hundred people were killed due to direct shooting by security forces.
