Claim by Two U.S. Congress Members: Robert Malley Suspended for Downloading Classified Documents on His Mobile

Claim by two US Congress members: Robert Malley has been suspended from his job for downloading classified documents on his mobile phone.

The Washington Post, in a report citing two US Congress members, wrote that Robert Malley, the former US special envoy for Iran, has been suspended from his job for sending classified documents to his personal email.

According to this report, Senator Jim Risch, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Mike McCaul, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, have made this claim.

Based on this report, Mr. Malley downloaded the classified documents onto his phone after sending them to his personal email. The report adds that subsequently, the hacking of Malley’s phone allowed a hostile cyber actor to gain access to these documents.

Officials from the US State Department and the White House have not yet reacted to these reports.

Mr. Malley has been on unpaid leave for several months, and Abram Paley is acting as the US special envoy for Iran in his place.
