CNN: Qalibaf's Trip to Baghdad Might Be Linked to Iraq's Mediation Between Iran and the US

CNN: Qalibaf’s trip to Baghdad might be related to Iraq’s mediation between Iran and the US

Ali Rizq, a political and security analyst, told CNN that one of the possible objectives of Iraq inviting Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf to visit Baghdad could be the country’s attempt to position itself as a mediator between Iran and the US.

Rizq said such a role could enhance Iraq’s standing as a regional mediator and turn Ali Faleh al-Zeidi, the Prime Minister of Iraq, into a more significant partner for Tehran and Washington.

However, he expressed doubt about the potential success of this mediation, stating that given previous efforts by countries like Pakistan, Qatar, and Oman, it’s unclear what special advantage Iraq might have to succeed in this path.
