Continuation of Widespread Protests Against Changes in Israel's Judicial System

Continuation of widespread protests against changes in Israel’s judicial system

In Israel, protesters against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposed changes to the judicial system laws have called Thursday a day of resistance. They have said they will intensify their protests on this day.

Activists have stated that they intend to block main roads, including the route leading to Tel Aviv airport, which could make it difficult for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to depart for an official trip to Italy.

Marches and gatherings in front of high-ranking officials’ homes are also part of their plans.

Israeli officials say these disruptions will likely cause meetings that U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is scheduled to attend on Thursday to be confined to a location within the airport premises. He is expected to arrive in Israel soon.

The legal changes proposed by the Israeli Prime Minister, which critics say threaten democracy in the country, limit the power of the courts and increase the government’s power in judicial appointments.
