County License Plate Restrictions for Driving in Tehran
The Tehran City Council approved that from the year 2025, vehicles with county license plates will only be allowed to drive in Tehran for 7 days a month. Yesterday, on February 2, 2025, in the 300th session of the Islamic City Council of Tehran, the bill to determine traffic tolls and the traffic plan rate for vehicles with county license plates was approved with the maximum number of votes in favor.
According to this plan, vehicles with county license plates will only be allowed to drive in Tehran for 7 days a month, and if these vehicles enter the traffic plan area, they must pay 15 times the tolls compared to Tehran license plate vehicles, and after 10 days, this amount triples.
The head of the Tehran Vehicle Technical Inspection Headquarters said regarding the annual share of county license plate vehicles in the air pollution of Tehran city that more than 7 percent of passing vehicles in Tehran have county license plates, producing 145 tons of pollution annually.
The head of the Urban Development and Transportation Commission of the Tehran City Council also called for a joint meeting with the governorate and parliament representatives to find practical solutions on this issue.
The county license plate restriction plan was also proposed by the Tehran Traffic Police in 2021.
