Crisis in the Iranian Volleyball Federation
Amidst ongoing tensions and disputes within the Iranian Volleyball Federation, which is operating without a president, Naser Mirfakhraei, a member of the board of directors and the technical committee, has resigned from his positions.
Mr. Mirfakhraei, who was the setter for Iran’s national team in the 1960s and 1970s and a graduate in engineering from California, says that contrary to the rules, the electoral activities of one of the federation members started three months ago using the federation’s resources. The protesting members of the volleyball community say, ‘We remain silent out of respect for you.’ I said, ‘If my presence prevents you from seeking justice, I will not stay.’
Mirfakhraei, a former member of the Taj and Persepolis teams, told ISNA, ‘With over 50 years of experience, I have always safeguarded the interests of volleyball. The federation has developed an atmosphere where they are gradually dismissing the elders one by one. It was better for me to resign. The veterans of volleyball are being disrespected and will gradually be expelled from the federation.’
