Molavi Abdolhamid criticizes the arrest of Zibakalam: Such a sincere critic doesn’t belong in prison

Molavi Abdolhamid, the Sunni Friday prayer leader of Zahedan, criticized the imprisonment of Sadegh Zibakalam today, Tuesday, May 15, stating that such a sincere critic doesn’t belong in prison.

Abdolhamid Ismaeelzahi wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that thinkers and intellectuals are the country’s assets and their critiques and opinions should be welcomed. Sadegh Zibakalam is a realistic, patriotic, and compassionate thinker. Such a sincere critic doesn’t belong in prison. By freeing writers and free-thinking professors, liberate expression and the pen.

The news of Sadegh Zibakalam’s imprisonment was reported on May 13 following his conviction in three cases. Iran’s judiciary stated that he was imprisoned following the finalization of certain judicial rulings.

This retired professor from the University of Tehran is considered close to reformists and specifically criticizes the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy. In recent years, he has been an advocate for normalizing relations with Western countries.
