Criticism of the West in Amnesty International’s Annual Report

Amnesty International, in its annual report released on Tuesday, March 28th, criticized countries around the world for adopting a double standard approach towards human rights violations.

The report addresses the brutal suppression of government opponents worldwide, including in Iran, stating that Iranian authorities responded to the unprecedented uprising of the people against decades of repression with live ammunition and unlawful use of force.

Amnesty International also praised the West’s decisive response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but lamented the contrast with the lack of meaningful action regarding human rights violations by some of the West’s allies, including Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
