Death of a Newborn Mistakenly Left in the Morgue for 10 Hours

Death of an infant mistakenly kept in the morgue for 10 hours

Pedram Pak Ayin, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Health, stated that the case of the premature infant, who was declared deceased by the medical staff at a hospital in Shahriar but whose father claims was alive, has been referred to the forensic medicine department.

He mentioned that until the forensic medicine’s response is announced, various statements about the infant’s condition and cause of death lack certainty and evidential value. If any misconduct or crime has been committed by any hospital staff, the necessary legal investigation will be conducted by the competent authority.

According to Tasnim News Agency, quoting Reza Khodayari, the father of this infant, his child was born at five o’clock on Friday morning. He, having traveled from Khorramabad to the hospital, discovered at eight o’clock, upon visiting the morgue, that his child was alive. However, none of the medical staff believed him and dismissed the matter as a delusion.

The medical staff insisted that this seven-month-old infant had died in the mother’s womb three days prior.
