Death Sentence of Kurdish Cleric Mohammad Khodarnezhad Confirmed by Supreme Court

The death sentence of Mohammad Khodarnezhad, a protesting Kurdish cleric, was upheld by the Supreme Court.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network says that the death sentence and 16 years of imprisonment for Mamosta Mohammad Khodarnezhad, a protesting Kurdish cleric, have been upheld by the Supreme Court.

The Revolutionary Court of Urmia sentenced this 45-year-old cleric to death and 16 years of imprisonment in Azar of last year after 14 months of detention, on charges of corruption on earth, undermining the country’s independence, and propaganda against the regime.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported today, Thursday, June 7th, that Branch 41 of the Supreme Court, presided over by Judge Ali Razini, has upheld his death sentence and 16 years of imprisonment.

According to news sources, Mr. Khodarnezhad was arrested along with his son by security forces on November 19, 2022.
