Deputy Commander of the Russian Navy killed in Ukrainian missile attack

Russian officials announced that General Mikhail Gudkov, the Deputy Commander of the country’s Navy, was killed following a missile attack by the Ukrainian army in the Kursk border region. According to Russian military sources, Gudkov was in charge of the Marine Corps unit and was targeted during a military mission.

The first reports were published by Russian military bloggers. According to these reports, a command center in the Kornovo region near the Ukrainian border was attacked, resulting in the deaths of more than 10 soldiers, including several senior officers.

News agencies consider Gudkov to be one of the highest-ranking officers killed since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine in 2022.

The governor of the Primorye region, Oleg Kozhemyako, confirmed the news of Gudkov’s death and said that despite his promotion, he continued to personally visit the naval positions.

He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and added that this Russian general was killed in the line of duty.

Including Gudkov, the death of twelve Russian generals has been confirmed so far during the war.
