Deputy Minister of Communications of Iran: Internet Shutdown Has Cost 550 Trillion Rials to the Digital Economy

The Deputy Minister of Communications of Iran: Internet outage has caused 55 trillion tomans in damage to the digital economy.

Ehsan Chitsaz, the Deputy Minister of Communications of Iran, announced that the damage caused by the internet outage to the digital economy and the country’s major platforms has reached about 55 trillion tomans.

He said the total lost profit or reduced revenue in this sector is estimated at around 16,320 billion tomans, and internet disruptions in the telecommunications and communications sector have also resulted in about 6,400 billion tomans in direct revenue loss for businesses.

Chitsaz emphasized that widespread and nationwide internet outages, unlike short-term disruptions, effectively create an economic shock.

These statements are made while eleven weeks have passed since the nationwide internet outage in Iran.

Afshin Kolahi, a member of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, had previously stated that the direct damage from the internet outage is between 30 to 40 million dollars per day, and the total direct and indirect damages could reach 80 million dollars per day.
