The Deputy of the Environmental Protection Organization confirms the resumption of construction of the Miankaleh petrochemical plant.
The Deputy of the Environmental Protection Organization of Iran confirmed that the construction operations of the petrochemical plant in Miankaleh, which had been halted due to serious environmental consequences with a promise from Ebrahim Raisi’s government, have resumed.
Iraj Hashmeti told ISNA news agency that field reports indicate the continuation of fencing at the project site, which is indicative of the start of construction activities.
Images shared on social media show the nighttime resumption of construction of this complex.
Ali Bahadori Jahromi, the spokesperson for the Iranian government, had stated in April 2022 that the groundbreaking of the project had been stopped and that no actions would be taken in this regard during Mr. Raisi’s government.
The plan to construct a petrochemical complex in Mazandaran Province began during the administration of former President Hassan Rouhani, but the repeated industrial pollution from petrochemical facilities in Khuzestan Province and the Neka power plant in Mazandaran has been a cause of concern for residents and other citizens of Iran.
