The deputy head of the Department of Environment announced that from now on, the water level of Lake Urmia is unreportable.
In the latest official warning about the critical condition of Lake Urmia, the deputy head of the Iranian Department of Environment stated that the water level of this lake has reached an unreportable level.
According to Tasnim News Agency, Ahmadreza Lahijanzadeh said in a press conference on Tuesday, August 4, regarding Lake Urmia, unfortunately, the water level has now reached its lowest point, and if it falls any further, no numbers will be announced because the lowest possible statistic is this number.
He added that based on the latest data on August 2, the water level of the lake is 1269.74 meters, its area is only 581 square kilometers, and the volume of water available is half a billion cubic meters.
This figure was two billion cubic meters at the same time last year.
He warned that if the water level decreases further, no numbers will be announced, and from a field perspective, due to heat and evaporation, the situation will get worse than the current figures, and predictions about the complete drying of the lake by the end of summer are entirely accurate.
