Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson of the U.S. State Department, claimed regarding the issue of prisoner exchange with Iran and emphasized that from Washington’s perspective, diplomacy is the best way to address the Iranian nuclear issue.
We have repeatedly asked Russia and Iran to release American citizens who have been illegally imprisoned, but the choice of Moscow and Tehran has been to ignore these requests.
He pointed out the recent U.S. sanctions against Iran and Russia in this regard, stating that the U.S. continues its relentless efforts to ensure the freedom of American citizens who, according to him, have been taken hostage or illegally imprisoned, and to bring them back to their families.
Patel’s remarks come as Iranian officials have stated that they consider the issue of exchanging American prisoners to be separate from other matters discussed between the two countries and are ready to negotiate and finalize an agreement in this regard.
