Destruction of Bahram II’s Sassanid Relief with Explosives

The crown of Bahram II in the rock relief of Sarab Bahram village, located three kilometers from Noorabad Mamasani, which is one of the important historical reliefs in Iran, has been destroyed with explosives.

The Iran Watch site has announced that this relief, which was nationally registered in 1936, was likely damaged during Chaharshanbeh Suri because traces of firecrackers or incendiary materials have been observed on this relief.

Cultural heritage experts and specialists have called for the immediate restoration of this artifact.

Hossein Feyzi, who holds a PhD in archaeology and is a researcher of the Sassanid era, has stated that the Bahram II relief is one of Iran’s most important reliefs, facing many threats, and no protective measures appropriate to the significance of this relief are being taken.

In the early morning of April 3rd, incendiary materials were also thrown at the site of the Tomb of Esther and Mordechai in Hamedan.

The Tomb of Esther and Mordechai is a Jewish shrine in the center of Hamedan city, which is listed among Iran’s national heritage sites.
