Destruction of Safavid Tombstones in Isfahan

Aqil Aqili, an archaeologist, said that historical tombstones belonging to the Safavid era have been abandoned for a long time in the area of Imamzadeh Seyyed Mohammad in Khomeinishahr, Isfahan.

Aqil Aqili said these elaborate and adorned tombstones, featuring engravings, poetry, and inscriptions, might have belonged to important individuals from this region in past centuries.

Each of these ancient stone pieces is engraved with a specific date, decorated with various scripts of religious poetry, and adorned with cypress trees and various decorative motifs. However, today they are abandoned in the most inappropriate manner, a short distance southeast of the Gaziyah porch in the pilgrimage complex of Imamzadeh Seyyed Mohammad in Khomeinishahr, Isfahan province, and are directly exposed to natural and human destruction.
