The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency met and talked with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Friday, September 4.

After this meeting, Rafael Grossi wrote in a message on X that it was an honor to meet with Pope Leo XIV and to share with him the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency concerning the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons worldwide, including in Iran, and nuclear safety in Ukraine.

Grossi added that he was inspired by his message about peace, which is disarming, humble, and enduring without weapons.

This meeting took place ahead of two sessions of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the General Conference of this body, which will be held on September 8 and September 15.
