Dispatching Committees to Prisons to Select Those to be Pardoned

Sending delegations to prisons to select those who are to be pardoned.

The judiciary says that in order to expedite Ayatollah Khamenei’s approval for the release of prisoners, including political prisoners, it has formed delegations to match cases with the predetermined criteria. Yesterday, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of the judiciary, asked pre-revolutionary Mojahedin prisoners to help this institution in the method of verifying repentance.

Judicial officials in the provinces are set to begin the process of matching prisoners’ files with the criteria for pardon by visiting eight prisons. Some of the pardons are based on criteria where the judiciary’s delegations are to decide according to their own standards.

The leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran agreed with the judiciary’s proposal to pardon and reduce the sentences of tens of thousands of defendants and convicts. This pardon concerning those detained in recent protests was conditional on factors such as the expression of remorse by the prisoners and sparked many negative reactions.
