Dispute Among EU Member States Over Migrants

Disagreement among European Union member states over migrants

The interior ministers of the 27 European Union member states gathered once again on Thursday to discuss the responsibility of accepting asylum seekers who enter the union.

The number of asylum applications in the member states of this union last year reached its highest level since the Syrian refugee crisis in 2015 and 2016.

The increase in the number of asylum applications in EU member states has fueled tensions among these countries, and countries like Italy and Greece, which are the initial destinations for refugees on the Mediterranean coast, have always asked other EU members to accept a portion of the refugees on their soil.
