Donald Trump: The US is considering forming a coalition to escort ships in the Strait of Hormuz

On Sunday evening, Donald Trump said on his way back from Florida to Washington that the United States is considering forming a coalition to escort ships and secure the Strait of Hormuz.

The US President said discussions have been held with about seven countries regarding the monitoring and securing of this strategic waterway, mentioning China but not naming the other countries. He also addressed NATO and other countries that, according to him, should defend their territories, explaining that by territories, he means regions from which countries obtain their energy.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Mr. Trump also warned that if allies do not participate in securing the Strait of Hormuz, it could be very bad for NATO’s future.

He said the US has been very kind to its European allies in the past and added, ‘We didn’t have to help them with Ukraine; Ukraine is thousands of miles away from us, but we helped. Now we will see if they help us or not.’
