Donyamali considered the statements about the 18-month construction of Azadi Stadium before the revolution to be incorrect.
Ahmad Donyamali, the Minister of Sports and Youth of the Islamic Republic, claimed after the cabinet meeting that a heavy construction project is underway at Azadi Stadium and reports are given to the public every week.
The Minister of Sports also claimed that rebuilding the structure is not an easy task and called previous statements about completing the stadium in 18 months in the 1970s incorrect.
Meanwhile, Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, which was known as Aryamehr Stadium before the 1979 revolution, is the national stadium and the largest stadium in Iran.
This stadium, which is part of the Azadi Sports Complex, was built to host the 1974 Asian Games.
The construction groundbreaking took place in late 1969, and it was inaugurated by Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi on October 17, 1971.
