Double punishment and deprivation of legal rights for two political prisoners
These two female political prisoners have been in prison for years without even a single day of leave. Additionally, security agencies and prison officials violate their basic rights as prisoners under various pretexts.
In all legal systems around the world, imprisonment is a penalty considered for the offender. However, in the Islamic Republic of Iran, they claim the right to systematically, rather than occasionally, punish political prisoners, especially female prisoners like Zeinab Jalalian and Maryam Akbari Monfared, with double penalties within the prison. Jalalian has been imprisoned for 16 years and Akbari Monfared for 14 years, and they are deliberately deprived of many basic rights that are even mentioned in the Islamic Republic’s own enacted laws.
