Dozens of People Missing Due to Flood in Balkh

The Afghan newspaper Etilaat Roz reported on Friday, March 24, that dozens of people went missing due to a flood in the Zari district of Balkh province.

The newspaper stated that the flood occurred on Thursday, March 23, in the Mirzaee area of the Zari district, where nearly a thousand families live. Local sources have said that about 300 residential houses were destroyed and the members of these families are missing.

Mohammad Asif Waziri, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Balkh, did not comment on the number of casualties from the flood but confirmed the destruction of 300 residential houses, stating that significant financial losses have been inflicted on the residents of this area.

He added that nearly three thousand hectares of agricultural land have been submerged, and the flood has swept away hundreds of livestock.
