Ebtekar’s reaction to the Ministry of Education’s announcement: Hijab should not be mandatory in girls’ schools like Hadad Adel’s school

Masoumeh Ebtekar, the Vice President for Women and Family Affairs during Hassan Rouhani’s administration, reacted to the Ministry of Education’s statement regarding providing educational services to students who do not adhere to dress code regulations. She wrote on her Twitter that the right to education is a human right and also a principle of the Iranian constitution.

Since 2017, we proposed that, similar to special schools and Hadad Adel’s school, hijab should not be mandatory in girls’ schools. We pursued and insisted on this proposal, but narrow-minded reactionaries prevented it. Legally, in an environment without non-mahram (unrelated men), you cannot enforce the hijab.
