Ansieh Khazali: Restriction on Women’s Exit from the Country was a Spokesperson’s Mistake
The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs of Iran says the news about imposing more restrictions on Iranian women and girls exiting the country was a mistake by the spokesperson of the Parliament’s Judicial Commission.
Ansieh Khazali told ILNA that the issue is not about single women, it was stated incorrectly. When I heard about this, I protested, sent a message, and they said they would correct it.
Ms. Khazali emphasized that by ‘guardian’ they only meant the husband.
A few days ago, Kazem Delkhosh, the spokesperson for the Parliament’s Judicial Commission, said that the commission members considered women’s exit from the country in normal conditions to be with the guardian’s permission, except in special cases where leaving the country is done with a court order.
A day later, he criticized Iranian media for lying and said that the Parliament’s resolution has made foreign travel easier for women.
Previously, the exit of married Iranian women from the country was also conditional on the husband’s permission. In cases such as Niloufar Ardalan, the captain of Iran’s women’s futsal team, or Samira Zargari, the national ski team coach, women being banned from leaving the country by their husbands has made the news.
